Big news in the world of gymnastics! USA Gymnastics has just announced that Kyle Albrecht will be stepping in as the new President and CEO, starting January 1st, 2026. He's taking over from Li Leung, who's been at the helm for the past six years.
Albrecht comes from Major League Soccer, where he was the vice president of MLS GO. His experience there involved launching the MLS's youth participation platform.
Albrecht shared his enthusiasm, stating that USA Gymnastics offers an amazing opportunity to elevate one of the most iconic sports in American culture. He looks forward to leading the organization, driving growth, advancing athlete success, strengthening the community, and building on the culture of safety and wellness established over the past six years.
Li Leung, a former U.S. national team member and University of Michigan gymnast, has overseen a significant transformation. She took on the role in March 2019, guiding the federation through a challenging period of rebuilding trust following the Larry Nassar abuse scandal.
Leung reflected on her time, calling it the honor and privilege of a lifetime. She highlighted the dedication of the gymnastics community, emphasizing their strong position as they look toward the L.A. Olympic Games.
One of Leung's major achievements includes reaching a settlement with hundreds of abuse victims, steering the federation out of bankruptcy, and bringing back commercial sponsors.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the U.S. women's team clinched the gold medal, and the men's team secured third place – a unique achievement for any federation in artistic gymnastics.
But here's where it gets interesting... Given the sensitive history and the need for continued healing and growth, what do you think are the most crucial qualities Albrecht needs to bring to the table? What are your thoughts on the future of USA Gymnastics? Share your opinions below!
