Spice blends are a great way to take the flavor of your meals to the next level. And, one of my favorites is this homemade Cajun seasoning blend.

This wonderful little spice blend is commonly used on chicken or pork. But, it’s amazing on potatoes, vegetables, or sprinkle on top of your favorite creamy vegan pasta.

Also known as “creole seasoning,” it’s a mildly hot spice mixture you can make in just minutes. If you like it hotter, as do I, add a little crushed red pepper. Oh, baby!

Once you see how easy this Cajun seasoning is to make, you’ll never buy another bottle! You can easily double or triple this recipe so you always have enough on hand! Trust me, you’ll want more than just one batch.

Alright, ready to “spice” up your life?

Grab some spices, your measuring spoon, and let’s do this!

Cajun Season Ingredients

This amazing savory, spicy homemade Cajun seasoning uses everyday spices you probably already have on hand. It can be mixed up in just minutes and adds amazing flavor to your favorite dishes.

  • Paprika: I prefer smoked paprika for that depth of flavor and smokiness.
  • Garlic Powder: way more subtle than regular garlic. But, adds a much needed essence and shouldn’t be left out.
  • Onion Powder: much more concentrated than regular onion. In fact, 1 tablespoon of onion powder is the equivalent to ½ cup of chopped onion. So, lots of flavor happening here.
  • Black Pepper: for earthiness and changes the flavor of food, adding depth and some spice.
  • White Pepper: similar to black pepper but is milder than black pepper. White pepper has a flavor that’s fairly musty, grassy, or slightly fermented.
  • Herbs: dried oregano, dried thyme, and basil add tons of flavor. Use only dried herbs because they’re much more concentrated with flavor and last a long, long time.
  • Cayenne Pepper: most commonly used in Mexican cooking but is staple in Cajun seasoning. It adds a sweet-spicy heat to spice mixtures and recipes.
  • Salt: I suggest that you add this after you have mixed everything else so that it suits your taste. If you are cutting back on salt this mixture is full of flavor without it.

How To Make Cajun Seasoning (Instructions)

If you’re looking to tickle your taste buds and bring life to bland and boring food this is one of the best spice mixtures you could use. Here’s how you make it!

  1. Stir all of the spices together until everything is well and evenly combined.
  2. Store in a jar with a lid or airtight container.

Yes, it’s that easy. You can use it right away or store it in a jar for up to 3 years!

  • Rub: use it as a rub on tofu or vegetables then toss’em on the grill.

Pro Tips and Suggestions

  • Dried Herbs: use only dried herbs and spices for this recipe. The flavor is more concentrated and allows you to keep the unused cajun seasoning longer.
  • Heat: everyone’s taste is different. Some like it hot and some not so adjust to you own liking. If you want to kick it up a notch crushed red pepper is perfect. You can also add more cayenne.
