EPF Surges: RM63.99 Billion in Investment Income – What It Means for Malaysians (2025)

EPF's Investment Income Soars by 11% in Nine Months, Hitting RM63.99 Billion

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has achieved a remarkable 11% growth in investment income, reaching a total of RM63.99 billion for the nine months ending September 30, 2025. This impressive figure marks a significant increase from the RM57.57 billion recorded in the same period last year.

In the third quarter alone, EPF's investment income soared by 27% to RM25.07 billion, compared to RM19.67 billion in Q3 2024. EPF CEO Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn attributed this success to strategic asset allocation, which enabled the fund to capitalize on the recovering equity markets post-"Liberation Day".

Onn highlighted the strength of the Malaysian economy, which accounts for 61% of the portfolio, while global investments contributed 53% of the total income this quarter. However, he also cautioned that the fund remains vigilant as it enters the fourth quarter, citing elevated global equity valuations and mixed signals from global economic indicators.

Equities led the way, generating RM16.95 billion, or 68%, of the total investment income. Fixed income instruments contributed RM6.75 billion (27%), real estate and infrastructure added RM1.14 billion (4%), and money market instruments accounted for RM0.23 billion (1%).

Of the Q3 2025 income, RM20.48 billion came from conventional savings, while RM4.59 billion came from Shariah-compliant savings. As of September 30, 2025, total investment assets stood at RM1.37 trillion, up 12% year-over-year, with international investments making up 39% of the portfolio.

Membership and contributions continued to grow, with EPF adding 427,329 new members in the first nine months of 2025, bringing the total membership to over 16.5 million. Active members numbered 9.07 million, representing 51.7% of the country's 17.54 million-strong labor force.

New employer registrations reached 62,401, taking the total active employers to 628,321. Total contributions rose 10.5% to RM27.84 billion in Q3 2025, while voluntary contributions jumped 47.5% to RM15.30 billion. EPF is now guiding employers and employees to ensure smooth compliance with the new mandatory contribution rules for non-Malaysian employees starting in October 2025.
