A spate of pharmacy closings in Boston have drawn protests as more than 1,000 drug store chain locations across the country have closed, reigniting long-standing concerns that low-income, Black, and Latino Americans are bearing the brunt as pharmacies continue to disappear amid increased competition and other factors.Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS have, over the last two years, said they'll close more than 1,500 stores, The Washington Postreported, and experts say minority communities will likely bethe first to losepharmacy access. The large chains have struggled in recent years—Rite Aidfiled for bankruptcyin October, Walgreens stock plunged last week after thecompany cutit* quarterly dividend and CVShas cutmore than 1,100 stores since 2018—amid greater competition from Amazon and WalMart, and staffing shortages, according tothe Post.Thousandsof independent pharmacies have also been forced out of the market in the last decade.Research conductedin 2022 by Cornell and Yale University scientists found of the 670 pharmacy deserts in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston, all but three were found in predominantly minority neighborhoods.

Walgreens just taught our leaders an important lesson with the closure of one of the last major retailers in North St. Louis. In a statement from Walgreens they said the store was closing because of “unsustainable business performance.” TRANSLATION:Without profitability, Retail will fail. Without safety, Retail will fail. This is Retail 101. The surrounding community needs jobs to support retail. The store owners need safety to protect their employees, customers, products and investments. Over the past couple years, our leaders have turned down multiple job creators based on the wishful thinking that retailers will eventually come back to North City to put Humpty Dumpty back together. Stop dreaming and focus on reality. If you want things to change, it’s time to get your hands dirty and focus on some cold hard truths: Communities will not prosper without families, jobs, safety, education and investment. The lesson is repeated until learned. City of St. Louis L. Waitrose organized shoplifting on the rise Waitrose has reported a rise in shoplifting in its stores across the UK, as an MP said organised gangs were "operating with impunity". The supermarket, headquartered in Bracknell, Berkshire, blamed steal-to-order gangs and anti-social behaviour. The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said retail thefts across the sector in England and Wales rose by 26% in 2022. In March, police forces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland recorded almost 33,000 incidents of shoplifting. Data, analysed by the BBC, shows shoplifting offences have returned to pre-pandemic levels as the cost of living rises. James Sunderland, Conservative MP for Bracknell, told the BBC: "Targeted shoplifting through organised retail crime is clearly on the rise. "Gangs appear to be operating with impunity across the South East and there have been instances of violence to staff when they attempt to intervene, not just at Waitrose but all supermarkets." JLP said that, while none of its staff had been seriously injured, some "have been threatened with weapons", with "clearly an emotional cost to them if they feel threatened at work". Lucy Brown, director of security for JLP, told the BBC: "We're seeing a real increase - some are one-off offenders but the majority are shoplifting on a regular basis, switching across all retailers. The John Lewis Partnership (JLP), which owns Waitrose, said that while it could not "speculate on the reasons", it was seeing "rising numbers of shoplifting offences - often by organised gangs as well as anti-social behaviour". #thesocialtalks #career #education #technology #marketing #Waitrose #MP #Bracknell #pricerise #JLP

Anyone who has been paying attention to the disaster that is Walgreens will not be surprised by the sudden departure of their CEO. She turned the company upside down at a critical time, enacting costly policies as well as investments with no ROI. Frankly, I am shocked she wasn't shown the door sooner given the 28% drop in their stock value.Companies like Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy need to take their head out of the sand. Stores are closing left and right because everyone knows these two chains have a hands-off enforcement policy when it comes to theft. I remember when Best Buy tried this nonsense...it cost them hundreds of millions in losses. Gee, sound familiar? And what is the definition of insanity - Doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different outcome.Time for a paradigm shift in #retail. Time to enforce the laws again. Time to get back to #business. #marketing #chaindrug
