It’s August, which means I’m officially daydreaming of fall decorating. Don’t panic, you will not find any pumpkins in my house–yet. But for my fellow autumn lovers, I wanted to share fall living room decor ideas to help you get inspired for the season ahead! This post features cozy blankets, throw pillows, fall stems, artwork, and more. We will also take a walk down memory lane through my last six years of blogging, so keep reading until the end to see a photo from my very first blog post. 1. Fall Throw Pillows for a Living Room
One of the simplest ways to refresh your living room for fall is to swap out your pillow covers. I like to use these or these down inserts and mix and match pillow covers that I have collected over the years! Last year I chose a color palette of sage green, terracotta, maroon, brown, and beige.

2. Realistic Fall Stems and Leaves
Secondly, faux stems are a great choice for fall living room decor. You can use them again and again and style them in different ways throughout the season. Personally I love artificial fall leaves in a large stone vase. Not only do they make a statement, but they add an organic touch to your living room.

3. Subtle Fall Living Room Decor
Want to keep your fall living room decor minimal? A sculptural vase, faux pampas grass, wooden bowl, woven tray, and terra cotta pillows are perfect for a subtle look.

4. Moody Fall Living Room Decor
The following year I brought in deeper colors and warm wood tones for fall. Our pinch pleat drapes were one of the biggest changes, but small updates like a dark wood chain and faux leather woven cubes added to the moody look. Finally, I mixed in brown and burgundy pillows for a darker color palette.

5. DIY Fall Quote Sign Wall Art
Next, for fall wall decor on a budget, try making your own autumn quote sign. I created this calligraphy scroll several years ago when our home had a more farmhouse style. But you could also use a blank canvas or frame a poster for a more polished look!

6. Fall Dried Flowers in a Wide Planter
In addition to faux stems and leaves, dried flowers are a great way to add a touch of nature to your fall living room decor. Some of my favorite dried stems are gypsophila (baby’s breath), hydrangeas, and pampas grass. Style them simply in a vase or planter for fall decor that you can continue using year round!

7. Cozy Throw Blankets for Curling Up
Cozying up with a book and a mug of tea is my happy place, so I’m all about having throw blankets at the ready! A plaid or checkered throw always feels like a good fit for fall, and these faux fur blankets are my absolute favorites for chilly days.
8. Fall Living Room with Flameless Candles
Last year I purchased these flameless pillar candles and we enjoyed them all through fall and winter. Since they are LED lights, the batteries last for a long time. They also come with a remote! (Safety note: be sure to keep the remote out of reach of children and pets, because it contains a small battery.)

9. Woven Textures and Baskets
Here is what our living room looked like a few years back with a light wood coffee table and blue patterned area rug. I cozied up the space for fall with lidded baskets, a rattan tray, and brown wool pillow cover. This is a great place to start if you are working with a light and airy living room!

10. Vintage Style Rug for a Fall Living Room
For a subtle fall vibe that will transition easily with the seasons, go for a vintage patterned rug. In particular, my favorite vintage look rugs are by the brand Loloi. Our living room rug is the Wynter in grey charcoal.

11. Fall Family Photos Gallery Wall
Next, try displaying fall family photos in a grid gallery wall. Whether you have photos from a portrait session, or a collection of pictures from over the years, this is a great way to add a personal touch to your fall living room decor.

12. Boho Fall Living Room Decor
Time for another throwback! A few years ago I tried out boho fall decor. Black and white striped pillows, blankets with tassels, baskets, eucalyptus, and gold accents helped create this look. If boho decor is your favorite, try adding cozy textures such as a brown velvet pillow cover and plaid blanket for a fall touch.

13. Fall Botanical Artwork
Another idea for fall living room shelf decor is to refresh your artwork. Botanical book pages are an affordable way to do so! In the photo above I styled unframed pictures of fall flowers on a ladder shelf, but you could also frame prints for a more polished look.

An easy way to add fall inspired artwork to your living room is by displaying art on a TV, and you do not need to have the Samsung Frame! I especially love this bookshelf artwork for a cozy library vibe since we do not have built-in shelving.

16. DIY Stacked Book Bundles for a Bookshelf
Looking for neutral decor to fill your living room shelves for fall? Try making inexpensive book bundles using old books, twine, and ribbon. Not only are they are a perfect way to add rustic texture to your home for fall, but they make use of old paperbacks or thrifted books.

17. Fall Floral Throw Pillows
Floral pillow covers in hues of sage, gold, and rust add a subtle fall touch to your living room. My exact terra cotta floral pillow is no longer available, but this one is similar!

18. Artificial Tree for the Corner of a Living Room
If you usually have a faux olive tree or fiddle leaf fig in your living room, try replacing it with a faux maple tree for autumn! Artificial trees can be an investment, but if you have a place to store them, they are a great way to decorate seasonally.

Love cottage farmhouse decor? Then dress up your living room for fall with thrifted finds, books, chunky knit blankets, and white pumpkins.

20. Fall Living Room Ottoman Decor
If you have an ottoman instead of a coffee table, you can still decorate it for fall! I like to drape a blanket over an ottoman to add a cozy layer. Then, style a wooden dough bowl with mini white pumpkins, a small potted plant, and a few books.
21. Fall Farmhouse Shelf Decor
Finally, here is a throwback to my very first blog post! Featuring fall farmhouse decor on an old bookshelf that I chalk painted white and then distressed. For a neutral farmhouse look, use book bundles, framed book pages, faux flowers, and ceramic pumpkins.
